SINK HOLE DE MAYO!!!!!

Or… when life gives you lemons…

A couple of days ago in a busy neighborhood in Seattle a water main broke, causing a LARGE sink hole that completely swallowed two cars that had been unfortunately parked at that particular spot.

The construction crews came and blocked off the area making access to a local restaurant just about impossible. The restaurant had been planning a Cinco De Mayo party this weekend, but instead it was deserted.

Most would have just given up, but not this restaurant. Taking full advantage of all the media attention, they posted a large sign that said SINK HOLE DE MAYO!!!!! Now that's a sense of humor!

The restaurant still may not have had any customers for a few days, but they were featured on just about every local news station, which can't be bad for future business. What a great way to get free publicity!

So, when life gives you lemons, what do you do?

Web 2.0 and Your Solo Business

There is no doubt that the web is changing the way we do business.

I am wanting to buy a new camcorder and so of course yesterday, the first place I looked was online. What did I ever do without the interenet? Our prospects, clients and customers do the same.

And the way things are going, if all you have is a basic "brochure type" site, you may be left in the dust! Maybe it's time to give it a face lift and bring it up to date with Web 2.0, by adding some audio, some video, or even a questionaire or survey that gets your prospects and clients interacting with you.

Still not sure what Web 2.0 is or how it might affect your business? Then check out this great video.....

Now That's a Great Idea.....

I just returned from a wonderful conference especially for entrepreneurs in Dallas, TX called the Idea Incubator. The entire 4 days was focused around taking your ideas from concept to cash.

How many times a day to you have an idea that could bring more money into your business? For example, you could teach a seminar, write an eBook, develop an eCourse, or facilitate a teleseminar on a subject you know a lot about and turn it into a CD set.

Or if you don't feel the urge to create products of your own, you could link from your website (if you have one) to other sites that have existing complementary products that you recommend to your customers anyway. Then you would make money on the affiliate commissions (like with amazon.com).

So many ideas… so little time!

Anyway, on my blog over the next few days and weeks I'll be sharing in detail some of what I learned that applies to running a solo business. So, if you've ever thought that it would be nice to have some additional streams of income coming in, and you'd like to know how, do check back.

A colleague of mine, and a 6-figure work at home mom, Debbie LaChusa, just created this wonderfully inspirational video for all work at home moms.

And even if you don't have kids, or work from home, it is very beautiful and uplifting.

Enjoy!

Our new site is finally up and running and I'm very excited. How do you like the look? We converted over to a blog format to make the site more interactive.

In the meantime, we are continuing to bring over pages from the old site. So if a page you are looking for is not here yet, hold on.... it is coming.

I'm also having some issues with my email server at the moment. Till I get it resolved you can reach me via email here.

The Solo Life

I guess it was natural that I'd live the life of a Soloist. After all, when I was 21, I left my family, friends and the only life I knew in Scotland to move to America and to "the big city", New York, the dance capital of the world. I went to pursue my dream of dancing professionally.

It meant moving to, not only a city, but a country where I knew no-one.

I thrived on it. Being a soloist was always in my blood.
